Introduction (English)

In this photographic file of the Dutch-Israelite Denomination, the photographs of approx. 80,000 tombstones present in the Ashkenazi cemeteries in the Netherlands are sorted by cemetery. Apart from photographing themselves and encoding by cemetery, these stones have not been treated in any way, with the exception of the stones that have been edited in the framework of “Het Stenen Archief”, the joint digitization project of the Dutch-Israelite Denomination and Amoetat Akevoth in Israel, website: – What this operation involves is described in the introduction of the Stone Archive. The tombstones now housed at the Stone Archive consist of two parts: – a.-Cemeteries, the treatment of which has been fully completed and can be seen on the site of the Stenen Archief b. Cemeteries (totaling approx. 16,000 bricks) with which the treatment has started (mainly deciphering and translation of the Hebrew texts), but stored in a closed work file, which is not accessible to the public. [Amoetat Akevoth only bears joint responsibility for the tombstones mentioned under a.] It may be that photographs have been included in this photo file, of which it later appears that the quality does not make the required treatment possible. These will then be replaced by a new photo at the moment that the cemetery in question is due for treatment. This photo file was created by the use of a framework of non-nominated, and mostly voluntary, photographers, for which appreciation and thanks are expressed.
